Consider providing a meal for one of the following dates: Feb 20, Mar 12, Mar 19, Apr 2, Apr 9, Apr 16 & Apr 23. Meals need to feed 8-12 people with their favorites being: soups, chowders, chocolate, Mexican, chicken, casseroles, traditional comfort food, salads, anything with potatoes and bread. There is one vegan, so a veggie option or at least a non-meat side would be appreciated. If you get stuck, Mrs. Wade’s is fine, BUT PLEASE NO PIZZA! We do pizza for bowling and if we get stuck, so they get enough pizza.

·         The cost of Altar Flowers has changed to $40. In an effort to allow everyone the chance of providing flowers, you may provide your own flowers for the Altar. (Please have them at the church by Sat night.) Please make sure you sign up on the sheet in the Parish Hall and let the office know of the dedication you wish to have put in the bulletin. If you care to use Northside (639-9351) to provide your flowers, please contact and pay them directly. Northside will provide the same flowers for 2 consecutive Sundays if you wish – picking them up and redelivering them the next week for a $40 total. If you use this service, please make sure you sign up for both weeks on the flower sheet and let the altar guild know. Thank you.

·        Another way to help the church meet its budget! We have received additional Kroger gift cards that are linked to our church that will earn us 5% when you use them to buy groceries, gas or other items at Kroger. The gift cards are for $5 each and you can refill them at any time at the customer service desk or cash register.  §         The deadline for Christmas Family donations (gifts and money) is due by next Tuesday, Dec. 14th. So please try to drop them off when attending services this coming Sunday or bring them by the office Monday or Tuesday morning. It looks as if the gift items are pretty well covered with the exception of pots and pans for family “E” (BTW, it is Wii games not Nintendo games for the 14 yr old boy in family “E”), but we have always had monetary donations that we use to purchase additional gift cards for food and gas that are given to the Women’s Resource Center for those in need and so far we have had no monetary donations. So please consider making donations early for this month’s mission to help our Christmas Families and others at the Women’s Resource Center. Thank you.

§         The Sunday school class will be meeting this Sunday, December 12, 9:45 am to practice the children's program for Sunday Dec. 19th Service at 11 am. Anyone who can help, please contact Margaret Sproule.

§         Volunteers will be needed for tomorrow, Dec 10th from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Elf Shelf to help with those choosing gifts. If you can help, please contact Diana Jordan at 639-0809.

§         The Clothing Bank will need 4 volunteers tomorrow, Dec. 10 from 10:00 am – noon. If you can help, please contact Mary Johnston 320-7018 (cell) or 639-5810 (home). They will also need 4 volunteers for the whole month of January on Thurs from 10-Noon and Sat 10-Noon starting Jan 6th. Again, call Mary if you can volunteer, or sign up on the sheet in the Parish Hall.

§         Grace Episcopal Church received a MGD grant towards the feeding program in Belize. This is a matching grant for $500. So far we have raised $175 towards that goal and hope to raise the remaining $325 before the end of the year. If just 13 people donate $25/each, we can reach that goal.

§         The tree carving fund is moving right along but the work has been slow moving due to the cold. An anonymous donor has offered to match any new donation up to $1000 towards this project and that amount is now at $625.

§         Hank Johnson has been compiling information and taking pictures for our new directory. It is just about ready to print, so if you have not had your picture taken, please submit one to the office to be included in the directory.

§         Mark Schafer has been working on our website. Please go to www.graceradford.org and check out the changes (you might just see your picture there). Trained members of the congregation will be able to add information to the website to keep those near and far informed on what is going on at Grace. We look forward to Mark putting on the final touches soon and this becoming a viable tool to let others know about Grace Episcopal Church and what it means to be an Episcopalian.

§         Visitors Needed: Each month members of the Grace Caring Mission make a single visit to our sick or homebound parishioners who are either at home or in the hospital. The team for the month decides whether they want to visit together or divide the list and visit separately. Usually there are 2-4 people to be visited and can be easily done in a morning or afternoon. Presently we need one more volunteer for the months of August and December. Anyone who is willing to be a visitor for either of those months, please contact the church office 693-3494 or Ann Walker 639-9266.

§         The Dec/Jan newsletter is printed. Look for your copy in the mail soon!

Rad(burg) Romps at the ‘Battle of the Burgs’

Christ Church, Blacksburg  On October 24, 2010 at the first “Battle of the Burgs”, Radburg (formerly Radford, T@G) came from behind to take the trophy.  Blacksburg jumped into the lead with a victory in the ‘Card Watermelon Toss’. Then, Radburg made a two team contest when Adam (swing’um) Johnston, son of that banana swinging folk hero Mike Johnston, won the “Banana Heave” with little or no competition. Christiansburg followed to tie things up with a win in the “Pencil Grab”.

From then on it was practically all Radburg. Jordan ‘beer pong” Herring crushed the competition with three balls in a row in the “(Less) Beer Pong Bingo”. Randolph (sting’um) Colby and Dante (hokey pokey ‘um) Piro tumbled the walls of Jericho in “Rubber Band Bowling”, and Dante following humbling all competition (including the Radburg priest) with a victory in “Dance Fever”.

Christiansburg claimed a victory in ‘Jenga‘, but the results were questionable and the Christiansburg player tried to secure ‘two’ points for one victory saying, ‘I deserve two points because I was the only person playing not from Radburg.’ (Boo hoo hoo, cry baby).

The evening concluded with the awarding of the trophy which we humbly (RIGHT) accepted.

Anyone wishing to add items to the Grace Notes please have your information to the office by 8 am Thursday. Thank you.

Diocesan events:

Ways to help the Diocese Nets for Life project:
Native Grace is a fair trade store located at 308 Market St., SE, in downtown Roanoke. Owner Donna Bollinger is making a unique offer: Print and bring the coupon (available via a link on www.dioswva.org's home page-look in the "Upcoming Events and Latest News" section) with you when you shop at Native Grace and 10% of what you spend will be donated toward our diocesan efforts for Nets for Life.* Native Grace's Facebook page has photos of some of the beautiful items that are available.

Whenever you shop online, consider making your purchases through BluePew.com. BluePew is a website that allows churchgoers to give financial support to their church or diocese at no additional cost above the price charged by the store-and a wide variety of stores are participating! Log in at BluePew.com to see a list that includes Barnes & Noble, Gap, iTunes, Lego, Target, Orbitz, Avis Rent-a-Car, PetSmart, and many, many more online merchants. You will still pay the same price for a product, tax and all. The store then pays back a percentage of the sale to BluePew.com, who will direct the money as you specify when you become a member. Funds directed to the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia through January will go to support our diocesan effort to purchase one mosquito net per parishioner through Nets for Life. Any monies given over our Nets for Life goal will go to support the individual gifts and contributions line item of the diocesan budget.

From the Rev. John Heck: The next program for the Center for Lifelong Learning at Phoebe Needles will be Tuesday, November 9, at 10 am. John Pero, of Professional Therapies in Rocky Mount, will present a program titled "Strong Bodies, Strong Minds, Strong Hearts: Are You Ready?" The program includes simple, doable ways to stay fit and sharp and to increase flexibility, agility, and balance. This will be a hands-on program, so dress casually. At noon, Karen Moretz will serve a delicious lunch to complement the program. Please make a reservation by calling 540-483-1518 or 800-848-1677 by noon on Friday, November 5.

FYE 2010: I Heard It Through the Grapevine-What does it mean to be an Episcopalian?
Youth in grades 8-12 are encouraged to join us the weekend of November 19-21 to further their understanding of our Episcopalian-ness! Rev. Phyllis Spiegel will faciliate our weekend and explore the meaning of the three-legged stool and other such things that make us Episcopalians different. Registration forms can be found online at the diocesan youth website. The cost for the event is $80.00, and the deadline to register is Monday, Nov. 15. Questions? Contact Aimee Bostwick at 540-314-1469.

Information passed along by the Rev. Barkley Thompson-Cool Congregations Brown Bag Lunches:
Roanoke Valley Cool Cities Coalition created Cool Congregations to work with area congregations on the energy issues. Cool Congregations will sponsor a series of informal brown bag lunches at noon at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, 1837 Grandin Rd. in Roanoke. The topics will address the following questions:
November 17 - What did the energy audits show? Were there any "aha" moments? How do we engage members of the congregation in making small changes that have an impact?
In 2011 we will begin talking about the bigger issues facing congregations - energy efficient lighting, energy conservation, energy efficient appliances, HVAC challenges, and determining return on investment.
